The New Cowan's Facility in Rutherfordton IS NOW OPEN and is the first building to be registered for LEED certification in Rutherford County!!!
LEED, created by the US Green Building Council, stands for "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design". It is a very detailed process of third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across areas that have the most impact: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. (The points scoring and certification process occurs after the completion of the project, and will take a little time).
