In the 1770’s pioneer families followed Squire Boone from Pennsylvania to settle here. In 1774,The county was officially established, and from 1820-1849 it was the nation’s primary gold producing area.
Col. Frank Coxe, in 1880 built a brick home which operated as an inn. The Coxe House has been preserved and currently serves as the Spindale Community House and town meeting hall including full-court basketball and weight lifting facilities.
